First Friday Wine Tasting
Chapters Hotel is delighted to have teamed up with www.thewineacademy.co.uk to offer the chance to learn about wine in a relaxed and informal way, in the fantastic setting of Chapters Hotel.
These evenings are aimed at people who enjoy wine and would like to learn more. The evenings consist of a tutored tasting of at least 7 wines conducted by Karen Hardwick, Director of The Wine Academy.
The evenings are relaxed and informal, we want to share our passion for wine and not bamboozle you with Jargon!
Friday 6th August – New Zealand
Our New Zealand evenings are always fully booked well in advance so do book early. Is Cloudy Bay really the best Sauvignon Blanc? Take our taste test challenge and decide for yourself. We also try some of the new aromatic wines being produced in New Zealand and have a few special bottles not available in the UK but brought over especially for the event.
Friday 3rd September – Australia
In the UK we drink more wine from Australia than any other country. It’s not surprising as the wines are generally well made, well priced and very well marketed. As well as favourites such as Shiraz and Chardonnay we will explore some lesser known grape varieties and regions. Take a trip down under, no passport or rucksack required!
Friday 1st October – Northern Italy
With over 1000 grape varieties to choose from it’s easy to see why we have had to divide Italy into two evenings. On our Northern Italy evening we will explore the wines of Piemonte and the Veneto . So if you want to know your Barolo from Barbera, Prosecco from Pinot Grigio then join us on a vineous tour of Northern Italy.
Friday 5th November – Southern Italy
As the climate gets warmer in Southern Italy so the wines and cuisine changes. Chianti from the rolling Tuscan hillsides, Fiano from Sicily, Negroamaro and Nero D’Avola from southern Italy. Wines that are interesting, exciting and great value for money We recommend you book a table for dinner and wine without food is simply unthinkable to an Italian.
Friday 3rd December – Bordeaux
People are still talking about how fabulous our Bordeaux dinner was in December 2009 and we have already taken repeat bookings for 2010. Bordeaux produces some of the finest wines in the world from light refreshing Sauvignon to rich, luscious Sauternes, classed growths from world famous Chateaux to everyday drinking. We taste our way around Bordeaux over a fabulous dinner created by Sean Wilkinson, Head Chef, to match the wines.
