Chapters has been the venue for many weddings in the past with a dedicated wedding team on hand to ensure the day is perfect from the moment the wedding is booked. The brasserie, which seats up to 60 guests, is tastefully decorated and boasts bespoke artwork from local artists. The restaurant seats up to 40 guests and caters for people who prefer a more formal gourmet service, ideal for any type of dining experience.

The terraced garden area, which holds up to 60 guests, has heated lamps installed, so can be used comfortably any time of the year. The 13 deluxe rooms in the hotel have first-class facilities which include Wi-Fi internet access, plasma television screens with built in DVD players and full en-suite facilities.

General manager of Chapters Hotel and Restaurant says: “A couple’s wedding day is one of the most important and special days of their lives. Helen, 26, and Glenn, 39, were the first couple to get married in the 300-year-old listed building on the High Street, which has started catering for civil weddings

“It was fantastic,” says Helen, a Health and Safety inspector.  “I have friends who have spent two years organising their wedding and it just seemed too stressful.We knew we wanted something quite intimate and personal.We visited big hotels but it was more like a wedding conveyor belt. We also didn’t want the massive budget and all the years of planning.”

Glenn proposed to Helen on Christmas Day with a trilogy engagement ring. “He knew what style rings I like and picked one out and proposed at home on Christmas Day,” says Helen.

Helen chose a Maggie Sottero wedding dress which she bought for a third of the price at Pretty Picture in the sale, and had feathers in her bouquet rather than flowers.She had three bridesmaids, her sister Kate and two friends, who wore chocolate brown dresses. Glenn’s two sons from a previous relationship, Mitchell, 11, and Kyle, 10, were pageboys.

The hotel, run by general manager, Victor Vassallo, is renowned for catering for individual needs, making it the ideal place to dine or hold a wedding reception. Within the riverside grounds of Chapters, and before their guests, the couple exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony before celebrating at a made to measure wedding reception.

Helen says: “Chapters was the ideal venue for our wedding. The day was wonderful. We received first-class service, ate fabulous food and now cherish photographs taken in the hotel’s beautiful grounds. The day was everything we wanted it to be, personal, intimate and stress free.

The pair, who had been friends for years before getting together two years ago, met whilst working for shop fitting company, Newman Scott Ltd. The newlyweds are expecting their first child, a baby girl. “I can’t wait, I’m very excited,” says Helen, who is due on November 3.We found out I was pregnant after we started planning the wedding so we went to the south coast for a few days after the wedding. We will go on our proper honeymoon next year.”

“Our wedding was perfect. It was so intimate and relaxed. We had 50 guests and because it was such a nice day we could go down to the river on the grounds.”
