Chapter’s Hotel and Restaurant in Stokesley has sponsored the Fietsen Tempo Cycling Team and the money has been used to kit them out in smart new sportswear. The hotel’s owner, former road race champion Steven Bell, has raced in both the UK and Belgium.
The team, Fietsen Tempo “ meaning Cycling at pace”, named after the Belgian based bike shop owned by ex-pro Peter Stevenson, originally from Northallerton.
Mike Milen, who is the Club Secretary spent 10 years racing in Holland and Belgium and then returned back to the North East in 2005 thus forming the Team…. The original Team was built up around a core of veteran cyclists including Peter Stevenson, Kevin Byers, Yorkshire points champion Noel Clough and former Tottenham and Luton footballer Mitchell Thomas.
And still today with a core of Race licence holders, they continue to compete in most of the local events on the British Cycling, League of Veteran Cyclists and The League Internationals calendars, but now added to this Fietsen Tempo has many non-race members more interested in social riding but still supporting local Sportives.
One of the pleasing facts about the passing years is that Fietsen Tempo has had the luxury of continued support and sponsorship from it founding providers, the longest being Steven & Peter Bell of Chapters Hotel and Restaurant, The House designer wear stores and Newman Scott shop fitters.
Recently in 2012, the Team saw “Altura Technical Bike wear” via Zyro owners Simon & Julie Ellison, become a major Sponsor providing the hi quality Team Kit “ one of the very best looking in the North East!” you will see them proudly wearing today on the roads around Middlesbrough and North Yorkshire.
The whole Team would like to thank its sponsors for their great support and looks forward to continued sponsorship over the coming years
